Keyword Rank is your app's position in the search results for a specific keyword in a specific storefront — the core metric ASO is judged by.
Keyword rank is position-by-position visibility. Ranking #1–3 for a term captures the bulk of its taps; positions below the first screen of results capture a small fraction; unranked means invisible for that search. Because rank is storefront-specific and shifts daily with the algorithm and competitor moves, ASO teams track a curated set of target keywords over time rather than a single snapshot.
Rank is an outcome, not a lever. You influence it indirectly — by adding the keyword (eligibility) and improving conversion, velocity, and ratings (authority). Watching how rank responds after a metadata change is how you learn what the algorithm rewards for your app, which is why before/after rank tracking is central to a disciplined ASO process.
Example
After moving "meditation" from the keyword field into the subtitle, an app's rank for that term climbs from #18 to #6 — the tracked change that proves the higher-weighted field worked. Track a curated set of target terms over time so you can read how each metadata change moved them.
