We're an App Store Optimization agency, not a software company, so none of these tools is ours, none paid to be listed, and there are no affiliate links on this page. Prices come from each vendor's own pricing page where it's public, retrieved September 28, 2026. Where sources disagree, we say so.
Key Takeaways
- Sensor Tower doesn't publish prices. Buyer data on Vendr puts most contracts between about $29,500 and $115,000 a year, with a median of $75,000.
- It owns data.ai (since March 2024) and AppMagic (since May 2026), so neither is an independent alternative anymore.
- For market and download intelligence: Appfigures (self-serve, from $9.99/month), Apptopia (investor-grade, similar price to Sensor Tower) or Similarweb (web and app data together).
- For ASO work: AppTweak (from $79/month billed yearly), MobileAction (from $15/month), App Radar (from €69/month) or AppFollow (free plan).
- Decide which job you're buying the tool for. Most app teams need keyword and listing work, not category-wide revenue estimates.
Why teams look for a Sensor Tower alternative
Sensor Tower's strengths are breadth and depth: app performance and competitor data, ad intelligence, and coverage that now spans mobile, web and audience data. It serves more than 2,500 enterprises. The reasons people look elsewhere are consistent:
- Price. Reviewers call it far more expensive than expected for startups, and pricing is only available through sales.
- Contract shape. Plans are custom annual contracts. Vendr's buyer data shows API access as an extra $5,000–$20,000 a year and renewals rising 5–10%.
- Estimates vs your own numbers. Some reviewers report that download and revenue estimates don't match their first-party data.
- ASO depth. It has keyword rankings, but reviewers describe a learning curve for the ASO features, and teams that mainly need ASO often find dedicated tools a better fit.
Two kinds of alternative
People searching for a Sensor Tower alternative usually want one of two things. Some need market intelligence: how many downloads and how much revenue competitors make, and which ad creatives they run. Others really need ASO tools: keyword research, rank tracking and listing optimization for their own app. The first group should compare Sensor Tower with Apptopia, Similarweb and Appfigures. The second will get more for far less from an ASO platform.

Market intelligence alternatives
Appfigures
Appfigures combines app intelligence, ASO and analytics for your own apps, on self-serve monthly plans from $9.99/month, with a free plan. It's the practical choice for small teams that want competitor estimates without an enterprise contract. Sources disagree on which tier unlocks download and revenue estimates, so check that before you buy. More in our Appfigures alternatives guide.
Apptopia
Apptopia sells consumer and app intelligence aimed at investors and finance teams, and added a US and EU consumer panel in February 2025. Pricing is quote-only; Vendr's buyer data puts the median at about $72,000 a year, so it's an alternative in approach, not in price.
Similarweb App Intelligence
Similarweb comes from web analytics and sells app intelligence (downloads, usage, retention and audience) on its own or bundled with web data. It's the natural pick if your competitors win on the web as much as in the stores. Pricing is through sales.
What about data.ai and AppMagic?
Neither is an independent option anymore. Sensor Tower acquired data.ai (formerly App Annie) in March 2024, and data.ai's site now shows only an acquisition notice. It acquired AppMagic in May 2026 as its offering for smaller businesses; AppMagic keeps its brand, but it's now part of Sensor Tower.
ASO-focused alternatives
AppTweak
The most complete ASO platform on this list: keyword research, competitor analysis, Apple Ads campaign management, reviews and market intelligence modules, with Essential at $79/month billed yearly ($949/year), Grow at $249 and Grow Plus at $499. See our AppTweak alternatives page if its limits don't fit.
MobileAction
ASO and Apple Ads tools from $15/month (Lite) to $239/month (Pro), with its Apple Ads tool free up to $10,000 of monthly spend. InMobi acquired it in May 2026. The lowest entry price here for a full ASO suite.
App Radar
ASO with review replies included, from €69/month (€58 billed yearly), part of SplitMetrics since 2023. Built around ASO workflows rather than market estimates.
AppFollow
Review management plus ASO, with a free plan for 2 apps and unlimited users on every plan, so there are no per-seat fees.
For single jobs, our own free tools are an option too: the ASO keyword research tool, the keyword rank checker, the app review analyzer and the Apple Search Ads calculator. They each do one thing and aren't a replacement for a platform.
Tool or agency?
Every tool on this list does the same basic job: it shows you where the opportunity is. None of them ships a metadata update, runs a screenshot test or answers a one-star review. If you have someone who will do that every week, pick the tool that fits your budget and store mix, and you'll be well served. If nobody has the time, a cheaper tool won't fix it. That gap is filled by a dedicated hire or an agency, and agencies bring their own tooling as part of the engagement.
We're an agency, so weigh this accordingly. Our comparison of ASO agency vs in-house lays out when each option makes sense, and our pricing is published if you want to compare the cost of a tool plus someone's time with a done-for-you plan.
If you were evaluating Sensor Tower to understand why competitors outrank you, that's an ASO question: our ASO audit benchmarks your listing against your top five competitors and ends in a 90-day plan.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free alternative to Sensor Tower?
Partly. Sensor Tower itself offers a limited free account, and Appfigures has a free plan with paid tiers from $9.99/month. For ASO work, AppFollow has a free plan. Full market intelligence at Sensor Tower's depth isn't available for free anywhere.
How much does Sensor Tower cost?
Sensor Tower doesn't publish prices; plans are custom and sold through sales. Buyer data on Vendr, updated February 2026, puts most contracts between about $29,500 and $115,000 a year, with a median of $75,000 across 40 purchases.
Is data.ai still available?
No, not as a separate product. Sensor Tower acquired data.ai, formerly App Annie, in March 2024, and data.ai's website now shows only a notice that it has been acquired by Sensor Tower.
Is AppMagic part of Sensor Tower?
Yes. Sensor Tower announced the acquisition of AppMagic on May 12, 2026, as a dedicated offering for smaller businesses. AppMagic keeps its brand, but it's no longer independent of Sensor Tower.
What's the difference between Sensor Tower and AppTweak?
Sensor Tower is market intelligence: downloads, revenue, usage and ad estimates across whole categories. AppTweak is an ASO platform for improving your own app's visibility: keyword research, metadata, Apple Ads and reviews. Most app marketing teams doing ASO need the second.
The bottom line
If you need category-wide market data and have an enterprise budget, Sensor Tower is still the benchmark, and Apptopia or Similarweb are the like-for-like alternatives. If you're a small team, Appfigures gets you useful competitor data on a monthly plan. And if what you actually need is to rank and convert better, skip market intelligence altogether and start with an ASO tool, or with someone who'll do the ASO work for you.
