Ask five App Store Optimization providers for a price and the answers will run from $12.50 a month to a $100,000 minimum. The low end is MobileAction's Lite plan, billed yearly (MobileAction, Pricing, 2026). The high end is the minimum project Yodel Mobile lists on its Clutch profile. Both numbers are real. They just buy very different things.
Most of the agencies we checked don't publish a price at all. In our October 2026 pilot, 3 of 15 ASO agencies did. And several of the ranges on Google's first page trace back to the same one or two vendor posts. So founders budget from guesses and can't tell whether a quote is fair. Sound familiar?
This guide prices the five ways to pay: tools, freelancers, audits and packages, agency retainers, and an in-house hire. Every number comes from a rate card, job posting, Clutch profile or BLS table, checked on October 7, 2026. One disclosure first: we're an ASO agency, so we sell one of the options priced here. Our published prices sit in the same tables, sourced the same way.
App Store Optimization costs $12.50–$599 a month in tools, $1,000–$5,000 a month for the agency retainers that publish a price, and about $131,000–$187,000 a year for a loaded in-house hire (vendor pricing pages; ZipRecruiter and BLS, 2026). Of 15 other ASO agencies we checked, 3 publish prices. Ours: a $1,490 audit, then $3,990 or $7,990 a month, month-to-month.
Key Findings
- ASO tools cost $12.50 to $599 a month on self-serve plans. Sensor Tower is custom; buyers report a $75,000 median a year (Vendr, 40 purchases).
- 3 of 15 ASO agencies we checked publish a price for their own service (pilot, Oct 7, 2026). Published retainers: $1,000–$5,000 a month, or from €2,900 plus €1,500 per extra market.
- On Clutch, eight of them self-report minimum projects from $1,000+ to $100,000+.
- A US ASO hire averages $109,490 in pay (ZipRecruiter, 2026). Benefits are 32.6% of employer cost for professional jobs (BLS, June 2026), so that's about $162,000 a year loaded.
- Ours, for comparison: a $1,490 audit; Growth $3,990 and Full-Stack $7,990 a month, month-to-month.
How much does App Store Optimization cost in 2026?
In 2026, App Store Optimization costs $12.50–$599 a month in tools if you run it yourself, $490–$2,794 for a one-time package or audit, $1,000–$5,000 a month for the agency retainers that publish a price, and about $131,000–$187,000 a year for a loaded in-house hire. We checked every price below on October 7, 2026.

| ASO Agency (us) | An audit, or a team for one app | $1,490 audit (one-time); Growth $3,990/mo; Full-Stack $7,990/mo; month-to-month | Our pricing page | One app, weekly work, no hire yet |
Two of these prices are in euros. At the European Central Bank's reference rate of 1.1177 dollars per euro on October 7, 2026, €2,900 is about $3,241, €1,500 about $1,677 and €2,500 about $2,794 (ECB, Euro reference rates, 2026).
The stores don't charge for ASO. In 2026, Apple's Developer Program costs $99 a year and Google Play charges a one-time US$25 registration fee, and you pay those either way. Ad spend isn't ASO either: Apple Ads (formerly Apple Search Ads) budgets go to Apple, on top of any ASO fee. For that side, see what Apple Ads itself costs.

How we priced it
We took each price from the seller's own page: vendor and agency pricing pages, employer job postings and the Clutch profiles agencies keep themselves. Everything was checked on October 7, 2026. Vendor surveys are labeled as surveys, and our arithmetic is labeled as ours. We exclude ad spend, store fees, separately bought creative and founder time. Some pages blocked our tools (ZipRecruiter, Upwork, Appfigures, Fiverr). Where we couldn't open a page, we say so or leave the number out. These are ranges, not quotes. Cite as: ASO Agency, "How Much Does App Store Optimization Cost in 2026?", asoagency.io, October 7, 2026.
AppAgent's June 2026 pricing guide gives agency bands of $2,500–$7,000 and $7,000–$15,000+ a month, with no sources. TekRevol's September 2026 guide repeats the same figures without a source, and Sonar's credits them to AppAgent. AppFollow's ranges come from a "public review of agency service pages" it doesn't list. If two guides agree, check whether they're citing each other. That's why our tables use only prices a company publishes about itself.
What do ASO tools cost if you run ASO yourself?
In October 2026, self-serve ASO tools cost $12.50 to $599 a month. AppTweak's Essential plan is $99 a month billed monthly, or $79 a month billed yearly ($949). MobileAction's Lite plan is $15, or $12.50 billed yearly. Sensor Tower doesn't publish prices, and buyers report a $75,000 median a year (Vendr, Sensor Tower pricing, February 2026, 40 purchases).
| Tool | Billed monthly | Billed yearly | Trial or free plan | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AppTweak | $99 / $299 / $599 | $79 / $249 / $499 a month ($949 / $2,990 / $5,990 a year) | 7-day trial | apptweak.com |
| MobileAction | $15 / $69 / $239 | $12.50 / $59 / $199 a month | 7-day trial | mobileaction.co |
| App Radar | €69 / €169 / €299 | €58 / €141 / €250 a month (€690 / €1,690 / €2,990 a year) | 7-day trial | appradar.com |
| AppFollow | Essential $179; Team $599 | ASO from $19; Essential $129; Team $425 a month | Free plan (2 apps) | AppFollow's plans post* |
| ASOMobile | $59 / $119 / $229 / $299 | 20% off ($47 / $95 / $183 / $239 a month) | Free plan; 3-day trial | asomobile.net |
| ASOdesk | Pro $59 | Pro $47 a month | 7-day trial | asodesk.com |
| SplitMetrics App Intelligence | $500 add-on | Not listed | Not listed | splitmetrics.com |
| Sensor Tower | Custom | Buyer median $75,000 a year; $29,500–$115,460 range | Demo | sensortower.com; Vendr |
Checked October 7, 2026. *AppFollow's pricing page didn't render for our tools, so its prices come from AppFollow's own plans post. ASOdesk's higher tiers were on a rotating sale, so we list only Pro. Appfigures blocked our tools and isn't listed.
AppTweak's pricing page opens on its Annually toggle. The $79 shown first for Essential is the per-month price billed yearly; switch to Monthly and it reads $99 (Grow: $249 vs $299; Grow Plus: $499 vs $599). When you budget a tool, flip the toggle and write down which billing you're quoting.
Ad tools charge separately again. In October 2026, AppTweak's Apple Ads campaign manager is free up to $25,000 of monthly ad spend, then 4% on the amount above (AppTweak, Pricing, 2026). SplitMetrics Acquire's Starter plan is free up to $25,000 of monthly spend (SplitMetrics, Pricing, 2026). Adapty's Apple Ads Manager is free up to $5,000 of monthly tracked revenue, then 3.5% of Apple Ads spend (Adapty, Apple Ads Manager pricing, 2026). All of that sits on top of the spend itself.
So is a $79 tool the cheap option? Only on paper. The subscription is the small line; the cost of DIY is the hours someone spends acting on the data every week, and nobody prices those. App Store Connect analytics, Apple's product page optimization tests and Google Play's store listing experiments come free with your developer accounts. Our free single-job ASO tools cover a few small jobs too.
This isn't a ranking. For which ASO tool fits which job, see our roundup, plus AppTweak's plans and alternatives and what Sensor Tower costs and what to use instead. We're an agency, not a tool vendor, and none of these links are affiliate links.
What do ASO freelancers and fixed-price packages cost?
On October 7, 2026, featured App Store Optimization profiles on Freelancer.com listed $2 to $40 an hour, several at $15–$20. Upwork's ASO page blocked our tools, so we don't quote it. Fixed-price packages are the newer option: AppDrift, an ASO tool that also sells done-for-you packages, charges $490 for its Launch package and $1,990 for Global, both one-time (AppDrift, Services, 2026).
What does a freelancer usually cover? One person, so keyword research and metadata, sometimes screenshots. Test cadence, per-market research and Apple Ads tend to sit outside a single person's scope. Many of the featured profiles list ASO next to web design and general marketing, so check the portfolio for store work.
The arithmetic is simple. Say 20 hours a month at $25–$50 an hour: above most featured Freelancer.com rates, and close to the usual global agency rate in Clutch's September 2026 pricing guide ($25–$49). That's our assumption, not a market quote. It comes to $500–$1,000 a month, or $6,000–$12,000 a year. Ask for the hours in writing.
Packages suit a launch, not a program. AppDrift's Launch covers AI-written metadata for both stores, 10 locales, a template screenshot set and a 30-day rank report. Global adds 40 locales and locale-specific keyword research. Both promise five business days, four slots a month and a "full refund if we can't deliver the scoped work."
Toptal publishes no rates for its marketing talent; its pricing page only says you can work "hourly, part-, or full-time for a fixed price on a weekly basis." Fiverr's gig pages blocked our tools, so they're left out.
One red flag needs no price comparison. Any gig selling installs, ratings or reviews breaks both stores' rules. In 2026, Apple's guideline 5.6.3 says manipulating "charts, search, reviews, or referrals to your app erodes customer trust and is not permitted" (Apple, App Review Guidelines, June 8, 2026). Google Play bans "inflating product ratings, reviews, or install counts by illegitimate means" (Google, User Ratings, Reviews, and Installs). Here's how to go about earning reviews the allowed way.
What does an ASO audit cost, and what should you get for it?
Published ASO audit prices are rare. On October 7, 2026, Admiral Media listed a €2,500 audit (about $2,794), "credited to your first month if you start a retainer within 30 days," and a €9,500 audit plus workshop for in-house teams (Admiral Media, pricing page, March 2026). Ours is $1,490, one-time.
Vendor surveys run higher. In 2026, AppFollow put agency audits at $2,000–$7,500 (AppFollow, App Store Optimization Cost 2026), and Moburst, itself an agency, at $3,000–$10,000, with freelancer audits from $500 (Moburst, How Much Does ASO Cost, September 2026). Neither names the agencies behind its ranges. Price matters less than scope, though. What should a paid audit actually include?
- Both stores, every market you sell in, or a subset named in writing.
- A keyword gap per market, with popularity and your current rank.
- A conversion review: icon, first three screenshots, preview video and custom product pages.
- Ratings and reviews health, including anything capping growth, like a rating under 4.0 or unanswered one-star reviews.
- Two or three named competitors, and what they rank for that you don't.
- A prioritized roadmap with an owner and an effort estimate per item, plus a walkthrough call.
When is an audit enough? When someone in-house has time every week and needs to know what to fix first. When is it a waste? Before product-market fit, or when search demand in your category is near zero; here's when ASO isn't worth paying for yet. And if budget is tight, you can run the 60-check audit yourself for free.
Our fixed-price ASO audit covers both stores: a 15-point teardown, keyword and competitor gaps, a creative and conversion review, a ratings check, a prioritized 90-day roadmap and a 60-minute call. It takes about two weeks. It's also the first step of both our monthly plans.
What does an ASO agency retainer cost?
Most of the ASO agencies we checked don't publish a retainer. In our October 7, 2026 pilot, 3 of 15 published a price for their own service. App Masters lists five monthly plans from $1,000 to $5,000, all month-to-month (App Masters, Pricing, 2026). Its $3,000 Growth and $5,000 Scale plans also manage Google, Meta and TikTok ads, so they cover more than ASO. Admiral Media starts at €2,900 a month (about $3,241) for one app on both stores in one market, plus €1,500 for each extra market or language.
Which ASO agencies publish a price? 15 checked
On October 7, 2026, we checked 15 active agencies: the seven others on our best ASO agencies list and eight named in page-one cost guides. For each, we read the homepage, any /pricing URL, the main ASO service page and the FAQ, and noted whether it states a number for its own service. Three did. The other 12 route visitors to a form or a call; the form on Moburst's homepage asks for a monthly budget from "Up to $10k" to "Over $5m." We left out Incipia, named in one guide, because its site says it closed in February 2021.
We read pages as served, without clicking through menus or forms, so a price shown only after a click could be missed. The sample isn't random, so don't stretch it to "most agencies worldwide."
Agencies do publish one number: their own minimum on Clutch. These are self-reported, and they're minimum project sizes, not monthly fees.
| Agency | Min. project size | Avg. hourly rate | Clutch reviews |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yodel Mobile | $100,000+ | $200–$300 | 34 |
| Phiture | $25,000+ | $200–$300 | 21 |
| AppAgent | $25,000+ | $100–$149 | 34 |
| Moburst | $5,000+ | $150–$199 | 44 |
| Gummicube | $5,000+ | Not shown | 7 |
| Admiral Media | $5,000+ | Not shown | 48 |
| RadASO | $1,000+ | $50–$99 | 83 (most common project $10,000–$49,999, per 73 reviews) |
| RankMyApp | $1,000+ | $50–$99 | 0 |
Self-reported by each agency on its Clutch profile, retrieved October 7, 2026. For context, Clutch's guide, updated September 21, 2026, puts US app-marketing agencies at $100–$149 an hour and says most reviewed app-marketing projects run $10,000–$49,999 (Clutch, Mobile App Marketing Pricing Guide).
What moves a retainer's price?
Mostly scope you can name:
- Apps and stores. Published plans are priced per app; both stores is the norm.
- Markets. Admiral's €1,500 adder is the clearest public example. One app in three markets is €5,900 a month. Here's what each extra market costs to localize.
- Creative. Screenshots, preview video and custom product pages take design time.
- Apple Ads. Management may sit inside the fee, as on App Masters' plans from $1,500 a month (its $1,000 Foundation plan leaves it out), or be billed as a percentage of spend. Ask which.
- Cadence. Test frequency and meeting frequency both cost hours.
At Clutch's 2026 US rate of $100–$149 an hour, a $3,000 retainer buys about 20–30 hours a month, and $5,000 about 34–50 (our arithmetic). Agencies don't have to sell by the hour. But any quote should let you check either the hours or the deliverables behind it.
What's inside, and on what terms
What's usually inside? Admiral Media publishes its own scope: keyword research, metadata optimization, creative review, native A/B tests where traffic permits, monthly reporting and weekly calls. That's one agency's list, not a standard. On terms, App Masters is month-to-month on every plan and Admiral's page states no minimum. Moburst writes that "most agencies require a 3 to 6 month minimum commitment," which is a vendor's claim.
Ours, on the same terms: Growth is $3,990 a month for one app on both stores, covering monthly metadata iterations (iOS and Android), screenshot and icon A/B testing, ratings and reviews management, a monthly strategy call and a dedicated ASO manager on Slack, with the audit included. Full-Stack is $7,990 a month and adds Apple Ads management run with ASO, localization for up to 10 markets, in-app events and custom product pages, preview video production, and priority support with weekly syncs. Both are month-to-month with ad spend separate; we list deliverables rather than hours, and the full plan comparison shows each line.
What does in-house ASO cost?
In 2026, ZipRecruiter puts average US pay for App Store Optimization roles at $109,490, with the middle half between $88,000 and $126,000 (ZipRecruiter, App Store Optimization Salary, 2026). Benefits and payroll costs make up 32.6% of employer cost for private-industry management and professional jobs (BLS, Employer Costs for Employee Compensation, June 2026). So an average hire costs about $162,000 a year before tools.
Here's the evidence, piece by piece:
- Employer-published pay ranges. DraftKings' App Store Optimization Specialist role (Boston or remote, posted June 5, 2026, now closed) listed "$89,600-112k / year + Equity" for at least one year of ASO experience. Life360's SEO/ASO Manager role (US remote, 2026, now closed) listed $121,500–$178,500 for 5–8 years of SEO and content experience. That role also owns SEO and AI answer surfaces, so it's a hybrid.
- BLS bounds. ASO has no BLS occupation code. The nearest are market research analysts (median $78,760, May 2025) and marketing managers (median $166,790, May 2025). By our mapping, a specialist sits near the first and an ASO lead near the second.
- Loaded cost. In June 2026, private-industry management and professional workers cost employers $78.85 an hour: $53.15 in wages (67.4%) and $25.70 in benefits (32.6%) (BLS, ECEC Table 2). So salary ÷ 0.674, or about salary × 1.48. It's an average across occupations, not an ASO-specific figure.
- Tools. One primary tool adds $949–$5,990 a year on AppTweak's yearly plans.
- Time to hire. SHRM's 2026 recruiting benchmarking puts median time-to-fill at 39 calendar days for non-executive roles, across more than 4,600 organizations. Ramp-up comes after that, and we found no measurement of it.
What an in-house ASO hire costs per year
What doesn't the salary buy? Creative production, translation and Apple Ads spend. Cover for holidays and turnover isn't in it either. For the non-cost side, like product context and control, see the trade-offs beyond cost.
Audit, retainer or in-house: which costs less for your app?
For one app in one or two markets, an audit plus a tool is the cheapest structured path. With Admiral Media's published €2,500 audit and AppTweak's Essential or Grow plan billed yearly, year one costs about $3,700–$5,800. Published agency retainers run $12,000–$79,000 a year, and a loaded in-house hire with a tool about $134,000–$190,000 (prices checked October 7, 2026).
12-month cost for one app, by path (USD)
Our own numbers on the same basis: the $1,490 audit plus the same tool comes to $2,439–$4,480. Twelve months of Growth is $47,880 with the audit included, and Full-Stack is $95,880. So which path fits? It depends on your stage more than on any price list:
- Before product-market fit, or near-zero search demand: free tools and the 60-check checklist. No retainer.
- Funded, one app, one to three markets: an audit to set priorities. Then either an internal owner with a tool, or a retainer if nobody internal has time every week. Most of our readers sit here, and both answers are fine.
- Several apps or 10+ markets, worked daily: an in-house team, with outside help for research peaks and new markets. That's the hybrid model.
Is any of it worth paying for? Know your break-even before you sign. Our ROI model puts break-even organic uplift for a $3,000-a-month program at 12.9% with 40,000 ASO-addressable installs a month, and 51.5% with 10,000, using RevenueCat's 2026 medians. Work out your break-even uplift with your own install base first.
How do you compare ASO agency quotes? 7 questions before you sign
Compare quotes on scope per dollar, not the headline fee. At Clutch's 2026 US rate of $100–$149 an hour, a $3,000 retainer buys roughly 20–30 hours a month, so ask every agency what those hours produce. Put these seven questions to each quote in writing.
| Question | What a good answer looks like |
|---|---|
| 1. What ships each month? | A named list: metadata updates per store, tests, reports. |
| 2. Who does the work, and how much of it? | Named roles, plus hours or deliverables you can check. |
| 3. How many apps, stores and markets are in the price? | Written per item, with the price of one more market. |
| 4. Is creative production included? | Which assets, how many, and who designs them. |
| 5. What's billed separately? | Tool licences, ad spend, any percentage-of-spend fee. |
| 6. What's the minimum term and notice period? | Month-to-month or a short notice period, stated before you sign. |
| 7. How will results be measured? | A baseline, branded vs non-branded installs, and a review date. |
Watch for red flags too. Admiral Media publishes a list we agree with: guaranteed rankings, review buying or keyword stuffing, tool logins sold as a service, unlimited tests on low-traffic apps, metadata changes shipped without approval, and long contracts with no written 90-day deliverables. Review and install packages also break Apple's guideline 5.6.3, quoted above.
- List each quote's monthly deliverables per store and per market.
- Divide the fee by $100–$149 to estimate hours at US agency rates, then ask the agency whether that's close.
- Add everything billed separately: tools, ad-management fees, creative.
- Price one extra market on each quote.
- Compare the minimum term and notice period, then the cost of a three-month trial on each.
Price is one filter. For fit, meaning specialization, proof and localization depth, see how to choose an ASO agency.

Frequently asked questions
How much does App Store Optimization cost per month?
Self-serve tools cost $12.50–$599 a month. Agencies that publish prices charge $1,000–$5,000 a month (App Masters) or from €2,900 for one app in one market (Admiral Media). A loaded US in-house hire costs about $10,900–$15,600 a month. Our Growth plan is $3,990 a month. All prices checked October 7, 2026.
How much does an ASO audit cost?
Few agencies publish one. On October 7, 2026, Admiral Media listed €2,500 (about $2,794), credited to a retainer started within 30 days. Ours is $1,490, delivered in about two weeks. Vendor surveys put agency audits at $2,000–$7,500 without naming the agencies. A free 60-check DIY audit is also an option.
How much does an ASO specialist or manager earn?
ZipRecruiter puts average US pay for App Store Optimization roles at $109,490 in 2026. Employer-published ranges run from $89,600–$112,000 (DraftKings, specialist, June 2026) to $121,500–$178,500 (Life360, SEO/ASO manager, a hybrid role). Benefits add about 32.6% of employer cost for professional jobs (BLS, June 2026).
Is it cheaper to hire an ASO agency or do ASO in-house?
For one app, usually the agency. Published retainers run $12,000–$79,000 a year, against about $134,000–$190,000 for a loaded US hire with one tool, at prices checked in October 2026. For several apps worked daily, in-house can cost less per unit of work. Cost isn't the only factor: control and product context matter too.
Do ASO agencies require long contracts?
Some don't. App Masters lists every plan as month-to-month, and Admiral Media's pricing page states no minimum term. Moburst, an agency, wrote in September 2026 that most agencies require three to six months. Our plans are month-to-month. Ask any agency for the minimum term and notice period in writing before you sign.
Is Apple Ads spend included in an ASO fee?
No. Ad spend is paid to Apple and sits outside any ASO fee. Management may be included or billed separately, and tools add their own fees: AppTweak's campaign manager is free up to $25,000 of monthly spend, then 4% above it (October 2026). Our Full-Stack plan includes management; your budget stays separate. See what Apple Ads costs per tap and install.
The bottom line
- Tools: $12.50–$599 a month. The hours are the real cost.
- Packages and audits: $490 to €2,500 one-time. A plan or a launch, not a program.
- Retainers: $1,000–$5,000+ a month where published. Price rises with markets and creative.
- In-house: about $134,000–$190,000 a year, loaded, with a tool.
- Quotes: ask the seven questions, and know your break-even uplift first.
Our prices are on the page, not behind a form. You can see the plans, start with the audit, or book a free 30-minute call and we'll tell you which path fits your app, including when it isn't us.
